The six agents include Marian Lansburgh, Jennifer Engel, Raifie Bass, Wendy Wogan, Julia Herman and Lauren Garrity — all of whom have worked together for decades.

Compass this week announced that it has scooped up half a dozen agents from Douglas Elliman in the tony Colorado ski town of Aspen.

In a statement, Compass said the six agents represent “a combined annual sales volume of $196 million” and have worked together for two decades. They include Marian Lansburgh, Jennifer Engel, Raifie Bass, Wendy Wogan, Julia Herman and Lauren Garrity. The group includes both Aspen natives and transplants.

Rory Golod, Compass’ president of growth and communications, described the new recruits as “a powerhouse group of agents who are not only top producers but also deeply collaborative.”

“They’re precisely the type of real estate professionals who thrive at Compass, agents who want to grow their businesses while staying connected to a network of like-minded peers,” Golod added.

The statement went on to say that the recruits are also the “latest proof” of Compass’ “growing momentum.” That momentum was visible in the brokerage’s most recent earnings report, which revealed first quarter growth in a number of areas including agent count. Compass has long made recruiting a key part of its business model and, ultimately, finished the first three months of 2025 with 20,656 principal agents.

Compass has additionally made headlines in recent months for its proactive stance on private listings, which are a key feature of the company’s “Three-Phase Marketing Strategy.” Compass CEO Robert Reffkin has been an especially vocal proponent of the private listing concept.

Compass’ stance on private listings, however, does not appear to have come into conflict with its recruiting efforts, as both the Q1 numbers and this week’s announcement indicate. The brokerage has also made several other recruiting announcements in recent days, including revealing that it picked up teams in New York’s Hudson Valley and in Annapolis, Maryland.

In the statement, the new recruits pointed to factors such as Compass technology and the opportunity to grow as reasons they made the jump to a new brokerage.

“Making this move with people I’ve worked with for decades felt like the right move,” Bass said in a comment that captured the group’s sentiments. “And I’m excited to experience the Compass difference, more tech, less hassle.”
